Batido also known as “Licuado” is a Latin American beverage similar to a smoothie which is made with milk, fruit and crushed ice. They are also sometimes called “preparados”. The main difference between a licuado and an American-style smoothie is that licuados use a milk base with ice, whereas smoothies use fruit juice in combination with yogurt.
Ingredients: (Serves 4-5)
- Papaya- 2 cups; cut into chunks (I used about 1/2 a medium papaya)
- Mango- 1 cup; cut into chunks (I used 1 medium mango)
- Milk- 1 ½ cups or 360 ml (Vegans can use almond milk)
- Sugar- 3-4 tablespoons
- Crushed ice- 1 cup
Add the cubed papaya and mango to a large blender and puree it until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth and lump free. If it is too thick, add a little more milk or water. Check for sweetness and adjust accordingly. Some fruits may not be that sweet and in that case you have to add more sugar to adjust the sweetness to suite your taste. Serve. 🙂
